THE BODY MYTH by Hannah Land

$10.00

OFFICIAL RELEASE DATE: April 15, 2022

In The Body Myth, author Hannah Land reinvents classical mythology and folklore to shed stark new light on our cultural myths around illness, health, and the body. These poems bring together Zeus, Jurassic Park, Transformers, Selkies, medicine, and the power and frailty of the natural world, weaving them into a tapestry of honest insights about what it means to live with chronic pain and disability. In the opening poem, Land writes, “There are as many ways to talk about the body in pain as there are ways to say ‘once upon a time,’” then creates in her storytelling a new history of disability, one that is compelling and beautifully-rendered in showing the joys and struggles of human embodiment.

Hannah Land is a disabled and chronically ill poet, playwright, and performing arts critic. Her poetry and short fiction have appeared in Pangyrus, Sick Magazine, Fatal Flaw Literary Magazine, Harpy Hybrid Review, The Hunger, and others. Her debut play A Lovely Light was recently selected for a staged reading by the New Works Playhouse and the Baltimore Playwrights Festival, and her theatre and dance reviews can be found on broadwayworld.com. She lives in the Washington, DC area where she spends her free time creating cosplays, watching figure skating, and laughing with her close friends.
