Adam Returns Back to Palm Springs

Limping to the left and without a rib
after I explained to him
that there is much much more
to lose. And I wanted to prove a point
so I whipped away the wind
and left him only with heat, and
I told the prickly pear not to nourish him,
but there were margaritas and mezcal
everywhere — so he drank and was drunk.
And he was always bleeding and
he loved the drinks so I took away
his tongue and he laid in bed
with a filthy man and he was sad
so they touched each other. He liked
this too. In trying to save him,
I never noticed the garden’s growth
everywhere he walked.
